A flick called Thunder Soul about Conrad O. Johnson and the Kashmere Stage Band came out last week in limited screening. Check the trailer. Looks pretty awesome, but it’s not playing around here yet, unfortunately.
The Kashmere Stage Band was a high school funk band out of Kashmere High School in Houston, Texas. I’d never heard of them before, so I checked ‘em out on the YouTubes. Here’s “Super Strut Pt. 1 (Kay Dee Remix).” It’s pretty fantastic.
The original “Super Strut” by Eumir Deodato is a great jam too.
