A daily miasma of frivolity by two wanna-be cultural critics. Or: just, like, some good links, dude.

This is “Vista Aerea de la Ciudad de Mexico XIII,” a photo taken by Pablo López Luz of Mexico City in 2006.

It’s like the city is an ocean.

Jacky Chen of Reuters took this photo, which was posted on MSNBC’s PhotoBlog. It shows musicians performing in a field in North Korea.

There is probably some ultrahorrible context behind this photo, but I love the visual. Plus, with six singers, drums, an accordion, and an amp, how can you go wrong?

Justin Terveen:

I’m not sure if it was outflow, or lightning related, but something lit this power station up for a solid 20-30 seconds.

Those colors, man.

The Big Picture’s collection of photos from the eclipse on Sunday/Monday was probably my favorite set in recent memory. It has my new Twitter profile pic (#4), a supreme badass (#17), two photos that can’t possibly be photos (#26 and #27), and this shot by Bullit Marquez for the AP:

An annular solar eclipse is partially seen at sunrise, May 21, 2012, from the coastal township of Gumaca, Quezon province, 187 kilometers (116 miles) southeast of Manila, Philippines.

The above photograph was taken by Horst Faas in Vietnam in 1965. The AP:

Faas, a Pulitzer Prize-winning combat photographer who carved out new standards for covering war with a camera and became one of the world’s legendary photojournalists in nearly half a century with the AP, died Thursday in Munich, said his daughter, Clare Faas. He was 79.

I’ve never heard of the man, but he took some damn good photos. MSNBC’s PhotoBlog has the AP article I quoted above and a selection of other photos.

Kevin Weir takes old photos and then makes creepy GIFs with them. Wired ran a short piece on him and his work, and his Tumblr has a lot more.

Sergey Larenkov takes photos from World War II and merges them with present-day photos of the same locations. The one accompanying this post is titled “Vyborg. Bridge to the past.” You should probably go to his LiveJournal and check out his other work, including the first photo in this D-Day set and this set from Gatchina.

Super neat photo by Arnd Wiegmann for Reuters on MSNBC’s Photoblog the other day. Caption:

An aerial view shows cross-country skiers climbing a hill during the Engadin Ski Marathon near the Swiss mountain resort of St. Moritz March 11.

Here’s a photo by Jeff Berkes titled “The Crossing,” taken in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

Check out the rest of his work; he’s pretty good.
