A daily miasma of frivolity by two wanna-be cultural critics. Or: just, like, some good links, dude.

This dropped earlier this week: Domo Genesis, Earl Sweatshirt, Vince Staples and Action Bronson all on the same track, produced by Alchemist.

I could write a thousand words about this — how Earl’s voice sounds so different now, how both Vince and Action Bronson just keep getting better and better — but you should really just listen for yourself.

Speaking of bands who haven’t sold out and have new albums coming out in September, here’s a new Dinosaur Jr. joint — “Watch the Corners”. So amped for this.

This is a new material, “aerographite,” synthesized by scientists from Kiel University and Hamburg University of Technology. They have a press release:

A network of porous carbon tubes that is three-dimensionally interwoven at nano and micro level – this is the lightest material in the world. It weights only 0.2 milligrams per cubic centimetre, and is therefore 75 times lighter than Styrofoam …

Despite of its low weight Aerographite is highly resilient. While lightweight materials normally withstand compression but not tension, Aerographite features both: an excellent compression and tension load. It is able to be compressed up to 95 percent and be pulled back to its original form without any damage, says professor Rainer Adelung of Kiel University.

AP report:

Prominent Motown studio musician and Funk Brothers member Bob Babbitt, whose bass playing pounded through the Temptations hit “Ball of Confusion” and Marvin Gaye’s “Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology),” has died. He was 74.

Babbitt died Monday of complications from brain cancer in Nashville, Tenn., where he had lived for many years, his manager David Spero said in a statement released by Universal Music, the label in which Babbitt contributed to numerous hit records.

J.I.P. (jam in peace) Bob Babbitt. Babbitt performed the bassline in Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours.”
