US sees Israel, tight Mideast ally, as spy threat
Adam Goldman and Matt Apuzzo for the AP:
The CIA station chief opened the locked box containing the sensitive equipment he used from his home in Tel Aviv, Israel, to communicate with CIA headquarters in Virginia, only to find that someone had tampered with it. …
It was a not-so-subtle reminder that, even in a country friendly to the United States, the CIA was itself being watched.
… according to another two former U.S. officials, a CIA officer in Israel came home to find the food in the refrigerator had been rearranged.
How is this something that happens in real life and not a bad spy movie?

Al Green, David Gilmour (yes), Jools Holland and (younger brother) Christopher Holland perform “Let’s Stay Together” on the Jonathan Ross show in 2010. Al Green: still got it.
You’re going to keep track of the landing of the Curiosity rover on Mars as it happens tonight, right? OF COURSE YOU ARE, THIS WAS THE RHETORICALEST OF RHETORICAL QUESTIONS
If for some silly reason you want to pretend you weren’t, though, you should probably watch this video of how the landing is planned to go.
Wikipedia: Max Headroom broadcast signal intrusion
The 25th anniversary of this is coming up. I had never heard about it until now.
The Max Headroom broadcast signal intrusion was a television signal hijacking in Chicago, Illinois, on the evening of November 22, 1987. It is an example of what is known in the television business as broadcast signal intrusion. The intruder was successful in interrupting two television stations within three hours. Neither the hijacker nor the accomplices have ever been found or identified.
Paul Hunt performed a comedy gymnastics routine at Madison Square Garden in 1981, during a stop of Nadia Comaneci’s gymnastics tour.
Yes, comedy gymnastics is a thing! A glorious thing. That crotch spin at 0:30 is seriously impressive.
Casey Neistat left his bags in an NYC taxi. Watch what happened next in this “OpDoc” (cut that out) produced for the NYTimes.
Clive Rose took this photo for Getty Images of, presumably, some sort of elder sea creature devouring a helpless human. This gruesome shot was posted in a set from the 2012 Olympics at The Big Picture with this caption:
Sebastian Stoss of Austria and Derya Buyukuncu of Turkey compete in heat 1 of the Men’s 200m backstroke on Day 5 of the London 2012 Olympic Games at the Aquatics Centre, August 1, 2012.
Sigurdur Stefnisson took some neato photos of a volcanic eruption at the Eyjafjallajokull ice cap in Iceland in 2010. A bunch of them would make pretty great desktop images if not for the fact that none of them are available larger than 640 x 426. Alas.
Anyway I chose to post this one, titled only with the identifier shs_n3_045824, because that is totally a lightning dragon flying out to the left. Check that shit out. That is a fucking dragon.
