England cricketer Sarah Taylor could make history in men’s county match

Sarah Taylor, the England wicketkeeper, has revealed that she is in talks to play men’s second XI county cricket this summer in what would be a groundbreaking move for women’s sport.
Taylor, widely regarded as one of the best female cricketers in history, has an informal agreement with the coaching staff at Sussex that if their second team needs a wicketkeeper at short notice this year, she will be selected to play.
So just an alternate; no guarantee that she’ll play. But it would be really neat if she does!
Traffic Referee rules against Jonathan Frieman in corporate personhood case
Follow-up to our story from last week about Jonathan Frieman, the man who drove in the carpool lane with corporation papers for ten years trying to get pulled over, by Justin Berton for the San Francisco Chronicle:
[Traffic Referee Frank] Drago directed Greene and Frieman to the vehicle code’s subsection, which addresses the intent of the carpool lane – to relieve traffic congestion.
“Common sense says carrying a sheath of papers in the front seat does not relieve traffic congestion,” Drago said. “And so I’m finding you guilty.”
Burned pretty hard.
Frieman’s going to appeal, of course.

Anonymous petitions U.S. to see DDoS attacks as legal protest

It’s hard to imagine a group that adheres to anarchic ideology would want its actions legalized under U.S. law. But that is exactly what Anonymous is doing.
The loose-knit group of hackers submitted a petition to President Obama this week asking that distributed denial-of-service attacks be recognized as a legal form of protest.
The petition, which is posted on the White House’s “We the People” Web site, claims that DDoS attacks are not illegal hacking but rather a way for people to carry out protests online.
If I had been drinking something when I read this, I probably would’ve started choking.

Wikipedia: List of dates predicted for apocalyptic events
Gaze upon my favorite Wikipedia article of right this second: “List of dates predicted for apocalyptic events.” As one may be able to infer from the title, it contains a giant table of failed predictions for the end of humanity, the end of the planet, the end of the universe, etc. 169 of them at the time I write this, in fact. I counted. (With a computer, not by hand.)
To restate: Wikipedia editors have compiled 169 distinct instances of people being incorrect, most of them not notable in any way, and presented them as encyclopedic information. This article has existed for over a year and a half, and over 1,300 edits have been made to it. All solely to catalog people being wrong.
I hereby coin “wikismug” for those situations where you read something on Wikipedia and just know the submitter was grinning smugly as they hit submit. This article is some of the most concentrated wikismug I’ve ever seen.
Poland probes artist’s claim he used Holocaust ash

Polish prosecutors are investigating a Swedish artist’s claim that he used the ashes of Holocaust victims to make a painting, an act that could carry a prison term.
…
Spokeswoman Beata Syk-Jankowska said Tuesday that prosecutors in the eastern city of Lublin have opened an investigation to check whether there is truth to the artist’s claim. She said there is no evidence and prosecutors are acting on media reports.
This could be a completely false publicity stunt. Of course, it could be a true publicity stunt. :(
